First Hire in Japan, US Based Specialty On-line Retailer

A US based specialty on-line retailer, which has a thriving business in the US and Europe, planned to duplicate their success here in Japan. Unfamiliar with the local market and business environment, this company had the difficult task of finding their first local employee as well as setting up their Japanese operations.

Through our consultative approach, CDS played a two-tier role in assisting this company take the first steps in establishing themselves in Japan. CDS began by providing HR support to help them understand labor laws, compensation standards, and the legal aspects of setting up a corporate entity here in Japan. We subsequently assisted in the recruitment of their first local hire. The client required a candidate to have both e-commerce and consumer goods experience, as well as start up knowledge that would navigate them through the pitfalls of a start up business. CDS was successful in identifying this candidate and bringing them to their team. CDS looks forward to a long relationship with this client as they continue to increase their presence in Japan.
