Sales Executive, New Medical Education Company in Japan
In early 2006, CDS was assigned an exclusive search to find the head of sales for this US-based company that provides medical education programs to physicians and marketing opportunities to the pharmaceutical and healthcare trade. Although this company has a solid reputation in the US and European markets, the company and the medical education business itself is very new to the Japanese market, which is still very much fragmented. CDS' task was to find a sales executive with excellent physician and medical society contacts, a strong network within the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry, and someone with the entrepreneurial spirit to take a relatively unknown start-up to a multi-million dollar business.
CDS worked very close with the APAC managing director to understand their business plan and model for Japan, the value and attractions of their programs and services, top line expectations, as well the chemistry and personal skill sets required of the candidate to succeed in their environment. After four weeks on the assignment, CDS successfully completed the search. CDS introduced a short list of candidates with the appropriate accomplishments, contacts and personal qualities, from which the client selected a candidate who not only possessed the right background and skill sets, but someone who is also highly motivated by the high risk, high return element of a start-up business in a high growth sector. CDS was recently retained to find the managing director and the marketing director for their Japan operations.
