Country Manager, US Medical Device Company
CDS was contacted to identify and recruit a Country Manager for this US-based specialty medical device company. The company has developed innovative breakthrough therapies and continues to reinvent the standards of treatment in this market. This company was still relatively new to the Japanese market and operates in a specialty area that is relatively immature in Japan and it was clear that having the right leader here was critical to their success. As Japan is the second-largest market for healthcare in the world, success here was also critical for their global success.
The challenge for this search was that the client had a strong preference for a Western candidate with strong Japanese communication skills and extensive experience in medical devices in Japan for this role. They felt that a Western candidate would be able to take a more strategic and aggressive approach as well as maintain very strong communications with HQ. Despite the very limited pool of potential candidates meeting these qualifications, CDS was able to present a short list of five highly qualified candidates within one week of initial brief. Among those, the candidate who was ultimately placed to this post was actually based in the US but looking to return to Japan. This new Country Manager has recently taken up his new position in Japan and we have heard good things from both sides thus far. We look forward to working with this Country Manager as the business continues to expand.
