The Tokyo Goannas, the Aussie Rules team sponsored by CDS, won the International Cup for the first time

Qualifying rounds on Saturday saw each team (Goannas, Japan Samurai A and B, Box Hill North from Melbourne, Australia, Eastern Hawks and Osaka Dingoes) play one another in 2 x 9 _ minute halves. With about 18 players - one of the biggest squads in recent memory, the Goannas were able to rotate players and give everyone a game.

An easy round 1 win against the Sams B, was followed by a close win over Box Hill in game 2; a tough and gritty defeat of the Sams A, was followed by some clinical passages against Osaka; but the Goannas then had a tired but scratchy win against the Eastern Hawks in the final game of the day. After a few Hardys Wines, Foster's and Australian BBQ'd Meat on Saturday night, Sunday saw the squad arrive at the ground minus a few players who were suffering some injuries, but nevertheless, they comfortably defeated Box Hill North 10 (goals)-18 (behinds)- 78 (points) to 6-10-46 in the Grand Final to remain unbeaten through out the weekend.
