August 2009 CDS was interviewed by PORTERS MAGAZINE 2009.08.29 issue Vol. 003
Board of Directors, Naoko Tsunoo, Simon Childs and Jason Dacaret shared their views on executive search in Japan, the history of CDS and the synergies between CDS and the parent company Recruit Agent.
CDS has a long history in Japan and is one of the pioneers of executive search in the market. In our early years, we did a lot of work with start-up and new market entrants to Japan but now have a much more mature and diverse client portfolio. We offer both retained and contingency based solutions to our clients depending on their needs and focus on bilingual candidates from junior management to board levels. We believe such flexibility is a major strength and one of the reasons we were able to survive the dot com crisis in 2001/2 as well as the current economic crisis.
CDS Consultants have the experience to actively headhunt talent as well as the flexibility to choose which assignments to take. This kind of recruiting style as well as our connections across Asia and into global markets was attractive to Recruit Agent, Japan's largest domestic recruiting company and in January 2008, CDS became a group company.
CDS focuses on middle to senior level management and we are effective in the zone between lower level contingency firms and higher end retained firms although for retained search we offer a competing solution to the best in the market under our CDS Executive brand.
As part of Recruit, CDS has the common goal to become the number 1 recruiting company in Asia. More and more people are working across borders as well as an increasing number of Japanese companies and individuals are operating outside of Japan and we are now ready to expand our business into Asian markets and beyond to support them.
